WELLNESS-ANTI-ANTI+ Participative Sweat-hut performance
A new communal space is opening in Flachau where people can sweat, talk, and exchange ideas. WELLNESS-ANTI-ANTI+ is an abstract flax scutching bath with a central heating point, built from locally sourced materials. In the Alpine region, the flax scutching house was used for breaking up and processing flax fibers. In addition, the building with its shared fireplace offered space for other uses—such as baking bread, drying fruit, or as a collective sweat bath. This versatility gave the flax scutching house a central position in the village community as a place of meeting and sharing, especially for women. With this work, the collective AestheticsAthletics+ questions traditional ownership structures and celebrates sweating, softening, and becoming fragile together—openly and without harshness.
AestheticAthletics+ (AA+) consits of Julian Castritius, Boris Schwarz, David Spanier, Teresa Stillebacher, Jakob Sycha, Nina Ziegler. It is a collective of architects, artists, and geographers from Austria and Germany.
WELLNESS-ANTI-ANTI+ Partizipative Schwitzhütten-Performance
In Flachau eröffnet ein neuer gemeinschaftlicher Ort, an dem geschwitzt, geredet und sich ausgetauscht werden kann. WELLNESS-ANTI-ANTI+ ist ein abstrahiertes Brechelbad mit einer zentralen Hitzestelle, gebaut aus vor Ort gefundenen Materialien. Das Brechelbad diente im Alpenraum dem Aufbrechen und der Weiterverarbeitung von Flachsfasern. Darüber hinaus bot das Gebäude mit seiner gemeinsam genutzten Feuerstelle Raum für weitere Nutzungen – wie das Brotbacken, Trocknen von Obst oder als kollektives Schwitzbad. Diese Vielfachverwendung verlieh dem Brechelbad eine zentrale Stellung in der Dorfgemeinschaft als Ort des Aufeinandertreffens und der Anteilhabe, besonders für Frauen. Mit dieser Arbeit hinterfragt das Kollektiv AestheticsAthletics+ traditionelle Besitzverhältnisse und feiert das gemeinsame Schwitzen, Weichwerden, Zerbrechlichwerden – offen und ohne Härte.
